BIOGRAPHY

Praised for her dynamic, versatile performance style and thrilling artistry, UK born saxophonist Carys Nunn is quickly developing a career as a soloist, contemporary music performer and music educator.  With her original sound, bold programming and gripping virtuosity, she blurs the barriers between genres, crafting exciting and emotive musical experiences.

Recent highlights include national recital performances with her chamber duo and her international debut at the European Saxophone Congress in Trento, Italy. She has appeared at esteemed UK venues such as The Bridgewater Hall, Wigmore Hall, and The International Anthony Burgess Foundation.

A vibrant recitalist and chamber musician, Carys is a founding member of KairosDuo, alongside percussionist Tom Hall, one of the UK’s leading young chamber duos.  As a group they regularly perform new music alongside reimagined classics, looking to reshape the concert experience with their idiosyncratic fusion of percussion and saxophone.

Dedicated to the promotion of new music, Carys actively collaborates with contemporary composers and has premiered several new works, including Meliai by Jenni Watson and Brontë Songs by David Horne. As a committed advocate of contemporary music in the future of classical music, she has commissioned pieces by composers such as Jos Cole and Eden Longson, and experiments with improvisation with electronics and modular synthesis.

Carys attained a First-Class Honours degree from the Royal Northern College of Music, where she also completed her Master of Music in Performance with distinction.  During her studies, she trained with respected saxophonists Rob Buckland, Carl Raven, Timothy McAllister, and Valentine Michaud. Her studies were generously supported by the John Fewkes Instrumentalist Award.

Committed to the exploration of musical pedagogy, Carys is a 2025/26 Instrumental Ambassador for the Benedetti Foundation, and for her master’s degree produced a thesis investigating the impact of political ideology and policy on equality in music education across England.  As an educator, Carys inspires her students with expert technical guidance and creative musicianship. She has experience teaching students of all ages and levels from beginner to advanced, both privately and across schools and music hubs.
